Fudo Myo-o (Fudo Myou-ou); Japanese reading based on Chinese characters
Jp. = Fudō Myō-ō, Ch. = Bùdòng Míngwáng. Beautifully and intricately carved amulet of Fudo, the protector of people born in the Zodiac Year of the Rooster. This amulet is small enough to fit easily in your shirt pocket.

  • Wood = Boxwood (Jp. = Tsuge)
  • Inches = 2.36 (H) x 1.77 (W) x 0.43 (D)
  • Centimeters = 6.0 (H) x 4.5 (W) x 1.1 (D)
  • Two pieces: (1) protective cover with deity's Sanskrit seed syllable carved on outer side and Japanese name etched on inner side; and (2) main piece with the deity's effigy; both pieces snap together snugly for compact storage
  • Fudo is the warlike emanation of Dainichi Buddha; Fudo represents Dainichi's wrath against evil and ignorance; furious, glaring face, as Fudo seeks to frighten people into accepting the Buddhist teachings
  • Fudo wields the "kurikara" (devil-subduing) sword in right hand (also symbolizes wisdom cutting through ignorance); holds lasso in left (to catch and bind up the wicked); seated on a rock because Fudo's faith is "immovable." See Fudo background notes for more details.
